About Our Gems
We take old-fashion flat-back glass gems (also known as flat marbles, nuggets, globs and blobs) and give them a thoroughly modern and unique twist!

Applying vibrantly colored, meticulously crafted "backing" to the flat side, gives our colored glass gems their beautiful, blown glass look, which has become so popular with mosaic artists around the world.

Our glass gems are primarily produced for mosaics but are now used in a vast array of craft projects, (ranging from candle making to jewelry design). We can not be held responsible if gems are not suitable for other intended uses. Gems are not suitable for use in kilns and are opaque, so can not be seen through. They are sun, frost and water-resistant and are ideal for use outdoors.

Shipping is not automatically added to your order
At Just Gems of NZ, we’re consumers too. So we understand that when shopping online, we want to know the shipping rates BEFORE we start shopping and if we can add a few more items without increasing the shipping price, we want to know that too!

When you’re in New Zealand but your customers are spread across the world, there’s no “off-the-peg” solution that offers these simple improvements. We consulted website developers around the world but with costs starting at 5 figures, there seemed no way of implementing these functions without increasing the price of our gems. We asked our customers what they would prefer. The result was unanimous. 100% preferred to manually add the shipping rate to their shopping cart, rather than see any price increases! Therefore.......

You must manually add shipping to your shopping cart. This is very simple:

Prior to commencing payment, visit the Shipping & Insurance Costs page (located in our Product Gallery Online Store). Identify the column which represents your shipping destination then scroll down to see the price tiers. Click the "Add to Cart" button located directly below your relevant postage option.

As most gems are sold in packs of 10 it’s easy to see how many gems you have purchased and to ensure you get full value for your money.

Every Glass Gem Is Different
As the backing is handmade and individually applied, every gem turns out slightly different. Therefore our gems are not recommended for those wanting identical, mass-produced embellishments.

No glass gem is perfect. Sizes, shapes, air bubbles & blemishes are normal but thankfully add to the unique charm.

Sizes provided are an average and may vary.

Using Your Glass Gems
While it may be tempting to play with your new gems, please try to resist the temptation! Your gems (just like all of us!) prefer a little care and respect whilst being handled!

Excited customers often ask us to recommend specific adhesives for our gems. Anything that is polyurethane friendly should be suitable but always test before use. Avoid those which contain solvents such as acetone. The top 3 types of adhesives preferred by our customers are; wood PVA, super-glue or 2 part epoxies. Epoxies (such as Araldite in Australia & New Zealand) are also our preferred adhesive because they are generally fume-less and dry clear.

For a life-long bond ensure adhesive makes contact with both the glass and the backing.
